•    WAS MEMBER OF THE GANG OF CROOKS WHO USED TO EXTORT MONEY IN THE NAME OF ADMISSION IN REPUTED MEDICAL COLLEGES

    The team of Insp Ajay Sharma & Insp Ajay Gehlawat in the supervision of ACP Sh. Ashok Sharma Delhi Police Crime Branch has successfully arrested a proclaimed offender namely Rajesh Rajput (age 63 years) R/o District Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, who had been absconding for nearly two decades in connection with cheating case registered in the year 2004 in EOW.

DETAILS OF INCIDENT:
    The complainant Dr. R.C. Mohar reported that he has been cheated of his hard earned Rs. 4 Lacs for the admission of his son in any reputed medical college. He stated that alleged persons used to run some NGO and gave an advertisement in newspaper for the purpose. He fell into the trap and agreed to pay money for purchasing a management quota sheet in MBBS. In this regard a case vide FIR No. 592/2004, registered under Sections 406/420/120B IPC at Police Station Shalimar Bagh and was being investigated in EOW, Delhi. 
Initially he was arrested in the case but soon after getting bail he absconded and did not attend any of the court dates. Following prolonged evasion of court proceedings, he was declared a Proclaimed Offender by the court in February 2006.

INVESTIGATION AND OPERATION:
    Recently Crime Branch has been assigned the task of tracking and arresting the accused persons who had been absconding in cases/court proceedings since a long time. Due to this not only the investigation of the cases and court trial in courts got unnecessarily delayed but in fact the justice is delayed. As per the directions of Senior Officers the team was sensitized accordingly to develop information about such fugitives.
Acting on specific inputs received through reliable sources to ASI Premveer Singh, a team of the Crime Branch led by ASI Premveer Singh, accompanied by HC Shabbeer Khan and Ct Ankush undertook an early morning operation on 01.07.2025 in Saharanpur (UP) in a private vehicle.
    Despite lack of cooperation and inputs from local residents, the team successfully traced the accused at his residence. Upon initial questioning, the accused denied his identity, but later, during sustained interrogation at the Crime Branch office in Delhi, he confessed and confirmed his identity. The facts were cross checked from PS Shalimar Bagh and EOW and it was confirmed that the accused was the same person declared PO in the 2004 case.

    The accused was formally arrested under Section 35(1)(d) BNSS 2023 at 06:00 PM after being informed about the grounds and reasons for arrest, in compliance with directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

PROFILE OF ACCUSED – RAJESH RAJPUT:
    The accused was born and brought up in his native village in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. After completing his graduation, he did diploma in civil engineering. He is married and has two daughters. He came into contact with some cheaters who were in business of cheating gullible parents seeking admission of their wards in reputed Medical/Engineering colleges. 
They started one NGO type agency with the name and title of “Helpline consultants private ltd”. They used to get published advertisement in National Dailies and allured the parents who seek medical seats for their children. They used to bargain and settle for a certain amount for the purpose. In this way the group has cheated scores of people.
