Parag Jain has been appointed RAW HEAD
Parag Jain has been appointed as the new chief of intelligence agency 'Research and Analysis' (RAW). Officials gave this information on Saturday. Jain, a 1989 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Punjab cadre, will officially start his two-year term from July 1. He will replace Ravi Sinha, who is retiring on June 30. The order said, "The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Parag Jain, IPS, to the post of Secretary, 'Research and Analysis' (RAW) under the Cabinet Secretariat. His tenure will be for two years from the date of assuming charge or till further orders, whichever is earlier... "Officials said that the decision to appoint Jain as the head of the external intelligence agency was taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet earlier this week. Earlier, Jain was the head of the 'Aviation Research Center'. It is an organisation involved in aerial surveillance, signals intelligence (capture and analysis of various types of electronic signals), imagery reconnaissance flights (using aircraft to take photographs for military intelligence and surveillance purposes), border surveillance and imagery intelligence (gathering intelligence through collection and analysis of visual data from various sources). Jain is known for his exceptional expertise in integrating both human intelligence and technology-assisted intelligence and is credited with playing a key role in planning 'Operation Nisdoor'. The intelligence support provided by him for this operation led to the armed forces carrying out precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). India had attacked nine terror camps across the border and Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan on May 7, including the headquarters of banned terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Officials said the missile strikes were carried out based on accurate intelligence gathered by the team led by Jain. Jain also has extensive experience in dealing with challenges arising from neighbouring countries and issues related to Khalistan terrorist groups. He also handled important geopolitical issues during the reorganisation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.
