Who will be crowned as the new CP

The Delhi Police Commissioner will retire after about one and a half months. But who will take over his post now? Discussions have intensified in the police headquarters regarding this. If sources are to be believed, the current Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora is retiring on 31 July 2025, but it is not yet decided who will be the next Police Commissioner. Some names are definitely in discussion for this post, but it is up to the Central Government to decide who among them will be crowned as the new CP.

If police sources are to be believed, it is now almost certain that the current Police Commissioner is unlikely to get an extension in his tenure and in such a situation, Delhi can get a new Police Commissioner. However, it is not yet decided whether the next Police Commissioner will be appointed to this post from the original cadre or a senior IPS will be appointed from another cadre like the current Police Commissioner. Sources claimed that seeing the retirement of the current Police Commissioner approaching, serious brainstorming has started among the senior officials of Delhi Police including the PMO and the Home Ministry under the Central Government regarding the selection of the new Police Commissioner. It should be known that deciding the police chief for Delhi is a very important decision not only in terms of administrative but also in terms of political and diplomatic balance and many other types of challenges, including security, always remain under the Delhi Police. If sources are to be believed, in the current situation, two names are at the top of the discussion and these mainly include the names of IPS Satish Golcha and IPS Praveer Ranjan. Out of these, 1992 batch IPS officer Satish Golcha is currently posted as the Director General of Tihar Jail. He took over this post on May 1 last year. Earlier, Satish Golcha has been Special Commissioner (Intelligence) in Delhi Police and DGP of Arunachal Pradesh, while he has a long experience of intelligence operations, internal security and administrative work. In such a situation, if he is appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner, then this will be an experienced leadership for the capital, while 1993 batch IPS officer Praveer Ranjan is originally from Bihar and is currently posted as ADG in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). From 2021 to 2024, Praveer Ranjan has also been the DGP of Chandigarh and Special Commissioner (Crime) in Delhi. His image has been that of a strict administrator and in the past, he played a very important role in matters like the 2020 riots and the farmers' movement. There is also a discussion about this post that like Sanjay Arora, a new police commissioner can also be appointed from another cadre. While for this important post, the Home Ministry is considering some more names under the supervision of the PMO. These include the names of some senior IPS officers on deputation in the central government.(rranjan)
