YSRCP leader and ex-MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, arrested at Bengaluru airport by SIT, in connection with alleged APLiquorScam
Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, former Chandragiri MLA and close aide of Andhra Pradesh ex-CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was arrested today at Bengaluru airport by Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials while attempting to fly to Colombo, Srilanka.
Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, was arrested at the airport alongside co-accused Venkatesh Naidu.
Chevireddy held key positions in the previous YSRCP government and he is accused in the sensational Andhra Pradesh liquor scam during the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy reign.
Both individuals were transported to Vijayawada and will be presented before the ACB court on Wednesday.
According to the SIT investigation, a huge sum of unaccounted money from illicit liquor dealings was used by Chevireddy and YSRCP during the election campaigns in 2024. A seizure of Rs 8 crore by the Election Commission before it reached a YSRCP candidate in Prakasam district led to a trail of funds and Chevireddy’s involvement in the scam.
As per the SIT findings, Chevireddy had access to Rs 285 crore campaign funds from Raj Kasireddy, the A1 in the liquor scam, and was entrusted with the YSRCP election affairs in 6 districts. Chevireddy distributed the funds among YSRCP election candidates across the state.
However after gathering numerous evidences including confession statements and CCTV footage, SIT named Venkateswarulu Naidu as A-34, Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy as A-38 and his son and former Tirupati urban development authority (TUDA) chairman Chevireddy Mothith Reddy as A-39 in the liquor scam case.
