SIMULATED BOMB THREAT MOCK DRILL

*A SIMULATED BOMB THREAT MOCK DRILL SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED AT MATHURA CHOWK, NEAR GATE NO. 4, SAROJINI NAGAR MARKET BY POLICE STATION SAROJINI NAGAR, SOUTH WEST DISTRICT, NEW DELHI*


      As part ofongoinganti-terror measures, a real-time mock drill was conducted today i.e. on 16.05.2025, simulating a bomb call, involving multiple units/teams of the Delhi Police. The objective was to test and enhance our readiness and rapid response capabilities in handling potential terror threats.

  The exercise began at 12:15 PM on 16.05.25 when a call was received at PS Sarojini Nagar regarding an unclaimed & suspicious object lying under the table of the vendor shop, Mathura Chowk, Near gate no. 4, Sarojini Nagar market which could be a Bomb. The call was promptly recorded and assigned to SI Vineesha for immediate action who alongwith staff rushed to the spot. Information was given by control room to ACP/Safdarjung Enclave, SHO/Sarojini Nagar, and other senior officers of South West District. SHO/Sarojini Nagar along with Bravo/Sarojini Nagar, immediately reached at the spot and considering the sensitivity of the suspicious bomb like object, he gave a message to control room/South West District, to send BDT/South West, Dog Squad and Crime Team along with maximum staff and ERVs. After reaching at the spot, it was found that one unattended brown color bag was lying under the table of the vendor shop at Mathura Chowk, Near Gate No.4, Sarojini Nagar Market, Delhi. The bag was containing a small black color rectangular shape box with some wires and LEDs mounted on it. SHO/Sarojini Nagar with the help of staff cordoned off the place of incident with tape and all the civilians were evacuated from the spot asap. Sand Bags were placed around the suspected object. Staff was deployed with the directions to keep all passages/routes free for movement. Pink Booth, Sarojini Nagar Market was used as the command room and Police Station Sarojini Nagar was declared as rear command room by ACP/Sub. Div. Safdarjung Enclave.

        The I/C PP Safdarjung Hospital was deployed at Safdarjung Hospital in alert position so that in case of any emergency he shall take care of the victims and to maintain law and order at the hospital. Bravo/Sarojini Nagar was tasked by SHO/Sarojini Nagar to search the suspicious person near Mathura Chowk, Sarojini Nagar Market and possible hideouts in the nearby area whereas SI Anoop Kumar and SI Prempal were tasked to restrict the movement of public from Entry Gate and main road to place of occurrence. The staff was directed to search the adjoining places and to keep the public away from the site. Considering the sensitivity of the movement of public, team Insp. Bravo/Sarojini Nagar along with staff were directed to perform combing exercise to check for any other IED in the area and to avoid any stampede or any other untoward incident/miss happening in the market. In the meantime Fire Brigade, Crime Team, Dog squad also reached at the spot. All agencies started doing the task as per the requirement. The team of BDT/South-West also reached at the spot by 12:31 Hrs. They were given immediate task to search the site of occurrence for any other suspicious object and during search they did not find anything suspicious. They detected Bomb in the bag under the table of the vendor shop. The said bomb was defused by BDT/SW team lead by ASI Balkishan at 12:45 Hrs.

The mock drill exercise was successfully completed at 12:55 Hrs. after the briefing of SHO/Sarojini Nagar.

The mock drill concluded successfully, demonstrating the Delhi Police's preparedness and rapid response capabilities in handling potential terror threats. This exercise provided valuable insights into operational strengths and areas for improvement in crisis management and counter-terrorism response.
