S B K Singh given additional charge of Police Commissioner

 

Delhi Home Guard DG Shashi Bhushan Kumar Singh has been given additional charge of Delhi Police Commissioner. He has taken over his charge. It is possible that in future, the Home Ministry may give him extension of service besides appointing him as full-time Police Commissioner. However, there is also a discussion that a new Police Commissioner may permanently occupy this post in the next few days.

It is worth noting that after four years, the IPS of UT cadre has again been given the charge of Police Commissioner. S B K Singh is originally from Bihar. While he has held many important posts including Special Commissioner Law and Order in Delhi Police. Senior officer of 1988 batch of Indian Police Service, S B K Singh served in Delhi Police, RAW, Arunachal Pradesh, Puducherry and Mizoram during his 36-year tenure. His image has been that of a strict administrator and he is known for technology, honesty and strategic approach. At present, he is currently posted as DG, Home Guard. In the early days of his career, SBK Singh has worked as ACP Headquarters and Karol Bagh, Additional DCP South, DCP North-East and DCP Central. Apart from this, he has also held the posts of Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Special Commissioner of Police (Intelligence and Security) and Special Commissioner, Law and Order, along with being the head of the Economic Offences Wing. In his last posting as Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), he had taken over the supervision of 85 police stations in 7 out of 14 districts, while he was made the security chief for the visit of US President Barack Obama, who came to India on the occasion of Republic Day in 2015. The security arrangements of the Indo-Africa Forum Summit were also monitored under his supervision, in which heads of state of 54 countries participated. According to sources, his image has been that of a professional, investigation-oriented officer and many high-profile cases including the famous Uphaar Cinema fire tragedy, Ponty Chadha murder case and many land scams were investigated under his supervision. He graduated from Delhi University's St. Stephen's College in 1986 and was selected as IPS at a young age. He has done MBA in Human Resource Management and has been a supporter of digital technology. Under his supervision, many web applications were launched in Delhi Police. He has about five months left for retirement. He has received many awards including the President's Police Medal. It is known that earlier Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora retired. His farewell ceremony was held at the New Police Lines Parade Ground in Kingsway Camp, in which many senior officers participated. Sanjay Arora successfully faced many big challenges during his tenure, which included successful handling of protests, sensitive events and security situations in Delhi, while on the occasion of retirement he thanked the police force. Now everyone's eyes are on the new journey of Delhi Police under the leadership of SBK Singh, where it is expected that he will give a new identity to security and law and order.
