A team of Operations Cell, South West District has arrested two illicit cigarette suppliers namely *Parikshit* R/o Vasant Kunj, Delhi, Age 22 years (Godown Owner) and *P.P. Chengappa* R/o Village Viraipet Taluk, Bekke Sodlur, Kodagu, Karnataka, Age 40 years. With their arrest, total 94,000 packets of illicit cigarettes are recovered without having mandatory warning sign and MRP as per Copta Act.
*INFORMATION, TEAM & OPERATION:*
A special drive against illicit liquor & cigarette suppliers is being continuously carried out in the South-West District to make Delhi drug/prohibited Tobacco product free. The team of Operations Cell/South-West District was tasked to develop information and to nab the persons indulged in supply of illicit cigarettes in the area. A dedicated team comprising of SI Rakesh, SI Chhagan Lal, HC Deepak, HC Sandeep, HC Sundar, Ct. Rajesh, Ct. Mohit and Ct. Farhan was constituted under the leadership of Insp. Gajender Singh, I/C ANC/SWD & under supervision of Sh. Vijay Kumar, ACP/Operations/South-West District, Delhi to identify and arrest the criminals with a special focus on dismantling the supply chain of illicit tobacco products. The team activated its network of secret informers and staff was deployed in the area to get intelligence and information about the illicit tobacco products suppliers active in the area.
On 27.06.2025, the team received specific information about a supplier of illicit tobacco products who had stored a large quantity of illicit cigarettes in a warehouse located in the basement of a house in Nangal Dewat, Vasant Kunj, Delhi. These goods were reportedly meant for distribution across Delhi NCR and South India. Acting swiftly on this intelligence, the team apprehended two individuals namely Parikshit R/o Vasant Kunj, Delhi, Age 22 years (Godown Owner) and P.P. Chengappa R/o Village Viraipet Taluk, Bekke Sodlur, Kodagu, Karnataka, Age 40 years. The following illicit cigarettes were recovered from the godown. The details are as follows:
1. L&B Original Silver (Quantity – 13 cardboard cartons containing 13000 packets)
2. King size Mayfair (Quantity – 5 cardboard cartons containing 5000 packets)
3. Richmond King Size Real Blue (Quantity – 50 cardboard cartons containing 50000 packets)
4. Richmond King Size (Quantity – 26 cardboard cartons containing 26000 packets)
The accused admitted to importing illicit cigarettes from other countries, such as Greece and Dubai, for distribution in the Delhi-NCR and South India regions. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 276/25, u/s 07/14/20(2) of the COTPA Act was registered at PS Vasant Kunj South & accused persons are arrested in the case.
*PROFILE OF ACCUSED ARRESTED:*
1. Accused Parikshit R/o Vasant Kunj, Delhi, Age 22 years (Godown owner), was born and brought up in Vasant Kunj, Delhi. His father is engaged in the import and export business at the airport. Initially, he learned the business from his father, but now he works independently. A few months ago, he met a person named Sunil from Bengaluru, who told him that one of his colleagues, namely P.P. Chengappa, resides in Delhi and provides godowns on high rent for storing imported cigarettes.
2. Accused P.P. Chengappa R/o Village Viraipet Taluk, Bekkesodlur, Kodagu, Karnataka, Age 40 years, works for his friend Sunil, who owns a cargo and courier business under the name "World Wide Cargo Services" in Bengaluru. Mr. Sunil managed the supply network in Delhi through P.P. Chengappa, and introduced him to Parikshit. P.P. Chengappa was responsible for supplying consignments from Delhi to various states across India to earn large sums of money.
*RECOVERY:*
1. Total 94,000 Packets of illicit cigarettes found without mandatory warning sign and MRP as per COTPA Act.
Further investigation is under progress.
