OPERATION:

On May 30, 2025, the Foreigner Cell of the Shahdara District, Delhi Police, received credible information regarding the presence of illegal Bangladeshi nationals attempting to enter the Seemapuri area of Shahdara Distt. The tip-off indicated that a group of individuals was moving across the Uttar Pradesh-Delhi border near Shaheed Nagar. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a joint team of the Foreigner Cell & Special Staff conducted a preliminary verification to assess the reliability of the input and, finding it credible, formulated an immediate action plan. Based on the informer’s identification and surveillance inputs, the joint team intercepted the group as they were entering Seemapuri. During the operation, a total of 16 individuals were apprehended, including 04 adult males, 05 adult females, and 07 minor children. These individuals were identified as Bangladeshi nationals who had crossed the border into India illegally and were attempting to settle in Delhi without valid travel documents or authorization. Post-apprehension, the individuals were brought in for further questioning and documentation. Legal proceedings under the Foreigners Act and other applicable laws were initiated at Foreigner Cell/SHD. This operation highlights the vigilance and coordinated efforts of the Foreigner Cell/SHD& Special Staff in addressing the issue of illegal immigration and maintaining internal security within the capital. All illegal Bangladeshi nationals have been handed over to the FRRO Unit of Delhi Police for the deportation process

INTERROGATION:

During sustained interrogation, the apprehended illegal Bangladeshi nationals revealed that they had crossed into India approximately 18–19 years ago. Driven by extreme poverty and a lack of livelihood opportunities in their native villages, which are located just 40–50 kilometers from the India-Bangladesh border, they made the journey under the cover of darkness. At the time of entry, they did not encounter any personnel from the Border Security Force (BSF). After crossing the border, they entered the Indian state of West Bengal and initially stayed in the Cooch Behar area. From there, they traveled by train to New Delhi in search of better employment opportunities. Eventually, they moved to Haryana and began working in rural outskirts, particularly at brick kilns (commonly known as bhatta), where they were involved in brick-making activities. These kilns are often located away from main villages and residential areas, which allowed them to live in hiding without attracting attention. No government agency had conducted any verification or background checks on them during this time. The brick kiln owners, motivated by the availability of cheap labor, employed them without documentation. Over time, they settled in the area, raised families, and continued to live and work without legal status or scrutiny.
