AN INTERNATIONAL DRUG PEDDLER ARRESTED BY THE TEAM OF ANTI-NARCOTICS CELL/NORTH DISTRICT
• A NEPALI NATIONAL INDULGED IN SUPPLYING OF CONTRABAND “CHARAS” ARRESTED
• 5.961 KGs “CHARAS” RECOVERED
BRIEF FACTS:
On 19.05.2025, the team of Anti-Narcotics Cell of North District arrested a Nepali national Santa Bahadur Tamang from ISBT, Kashmere Gate, Delhi and busted supply chain of Narcotic Drug “Charas”. 5.961 kgs of fine quality Charas (Commercial Quantity) was recovered from his possession. In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 391/25 u/s 20 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Kashmere Gate, Delhi and the investigation has been taken up to burst the syndicate.
TEAM, INFORMATION & OPERATION:
While continuing drive against drug traffickers/suppliers active in Delhi, the team of Anti-Narcotics Cell, North District had been developing information in the area of North District, Delhi. The team under the leadership of SI Jagbir Singh, (In-charge Anti-Narcotics Cell), comprising SI Hanspreet Singh, SI Naresh, ASI Shri Dhar, ASI Satyavir Singh, HC Vijay, HC Naresh, HC Rahul, HC Saurav, HC Ajay, Ct Deepanshu, Ct Dharmender and Ct Dinesh, under the guidance of Shri Ashok Kumar, ACP/Operations Cell/North District was continuously working to collect information about drug suppliers.
The diligent and enthusiastic efforts of police team were succeeded and during routine patrolling on 19.05.2025 at about 10:00 PM, near ISBT Kashmere Gate, the team members HC Naresh and Ct Dharmender spotted a suspected person waiting for someone near Footover Bridge who was carrying a yellow colour plastic cane in his hand. He was apprehended and on enquiry about the yellow colour cane, he could not give any satisfactory answer. This information was passed to the senior officers on which SI Jagbir Singh along-with other staff also reached the spot and after following the legal parameters of NDPS Act, personal search of the suspected person was conducted in which 12 packets of contraband Charas were recovered from the yellow colour cane. The accused person was identified as Santa Bahadur Tamang, age 38 years Vill. Shyampatti, Simalchaur, Distt. Kavrepalanchok, Nepal.
Subsequently, a case vide FIR No. 391/25 u/s 20 NDPS Act was registered at PS Kashmere Gate, Delhi and further investigation has been taken up accordingly.
INTERROGATION:
On interrogation, the accused person disclosed that he is a permanent resident of Distt. Kavrepalanchok, Nepal. In the year 2013, he was married to an Indian woman Sushila, resident of Distt. Kannada, Karnataka. He works as a carrier in the drug cartel involved in the supply of contraband Charas from Nepal to Himachal Pradesh. He further disclosed that he procured the Charas from a person namely Ratan Kumar, who is also a Nepali National. He crossed Nepal border and reached in Delhi by bus and was going to deliver the recovered contraband drugs to someone in Mcleodganj, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, but he was nabbed by the alert police team near ISBT, Kashmere Gate.
Further investigation of the case is in progress and efforts are being made to nab the other gang members of this racket.
PROFILE OF ACCUSED PERSON:
Santa Bahadur Tamang, r/o Vill. & PO Gokarn, Distt. Kannada, Karnataka (Permanent resident of Ward No. 11, Village Shyampatti, Simalchaur, District Kavrepalanchok, Nepal), age 38 years. He was born in a lower middle class family in Nepal. He was married to an Indian woman Sushila in the year 2013 and thereafter, he was residing in Distt. Kannada, Karnataka. In the year 2023, he was arrested along with contraband Charas in a NDPS case in Karnataka and remained behind the bars for 19 months. He was released from jail in March 2025 and started working as a cook in a Bakery at Rishikesh, Uttrakhand. Soon, he again started supply of contraband Charas from Nepal to Himachal Pradesh to live a luxurious life along-with his family.
RECOVERY:
Total 5.961 Kilograms of contraband “Charas”.
