•    *SNATCHER ARRESTED WHO WAS ESCAPING TO HIS NATIVE PLACE AFTER INCIDENT AND BOARDED IN THE TRAIN*
•    *SNATCHED PURSE AND PADAL RICKSHAW USED IN THE CRIME RECOVERED*

*BRIEF FACTS:*
On 18.05.2025 an e-FIR vide No. 80048311/25 u/s 303(2) BNS was received at PS Civil Lines, Delhi. During enquiry, complainant S. Azmi (name changed), r/o Mustafabad, Delhi, age 42 years reported that she is a housewife. On the morning of 18.05.25, she along-with her mother-in-law was going to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital, Delhi. At about 09:00 AM, they reached ISBT Metro Station Gate No. 3 by bus and hired a rickshaw. When they reached near the hospital, the complainant took out her purse to pay the fare, suddenly the rickshaw puller snatched her purse containing 02 set of gold ear rings, cash Rs. 5,000/- and some other documents and fled away from the spot along-with his rickshaw. After that the section of snatching was incorporated in the above said case and the investigation was taken up accordingly.  

*TEAM, INVESTIGATION & OPERATION:*
A dedicated police team led by *SI Ashok Kumar, comprising HC Anil Kumar and HC Vivek* was formed under the close supervision of *Inspr. Hanumant Singh, SHO/PS Civil Lines and guidance of Ms. Vinita Tyagi, ACP/Sub-Division, Civil Lines, Delhi* to nab the culprit.

During investigation, the team checked more than 150 CCTV cameras nearby place of incident and on the route followed by the accused person. Finally, the police team reached Shastri Park, Delhi and succeeded in tracing the padal rickshaw used in the above crime which was parked at a garage near Furniture Market, Shastri Park. The rickshaw owner informed that it has been given to one Harish Chand Mandal on rent basis.

The team developed local sources/ground level intelligence through which it was revealed that accused Harish was residing in a rented room in Jhuggi Shastri Park, Delhi. It was also revealed that today i.e. on 21.05.2025, Harish would proceed to his native place West Bengal by train. The team searched the schedule of trains going from Delhi to West Bengal on the same day and found that one train West Bengal Sampark Kranti was ready to depart from Anand Vihar Railway Station to West Bengal at 08:20 PM. The team reacted swiftly and instantly reached Anand Vihar Railway Station just before half an hour of leaving the train. The police staff made intensive search of the accused person with the help of his photo extracted from CCTV footage. Finally, they succeeded in apprehending the accused person from last compartment before starting of the train. His identity was revealed as *Harish Chand Mandal,* r/o Village Gokul Nagar, Sanny Asidanaga, Distt. Murshidabad, West Bengal, age 35 years. The snatched purse containing Rs. 350/- was also recovered from his possession.  

*INTERROGATION:*
During interrogation, accused *Harish* admitted that he had snatched the purse from a woman near Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital while she paying the fare for rickshaw. He further disclosed that he came to Delhi about 03 years ago in search of work and he started pulling manual rickshaw on rent basis. He along-with a native fellow was residing in a rented Jhuggi at Shastri Park area but he was not able to pay the rent of his jhuggi. He was in need of money, as he was also planning to go to his native village. So, he committed the above crime and sold the snatched gold ear rings to some passersby for Rs. 2,500/-. He was also addicted to Ganja and alcohol.              

Further investigation is in progress.

*Harish Chand Mandal,* r/o Village Gokul Nagar, Sanny Asidanaga, PS Talgachi, District Murshidabad, West Bengal, age 35 years.
